Soybean-Free Period in Mato Grosso Started June 8th

The annual soybean-free period in Mato Grosso started June 8th and will end on September 6th. The purpose of this program is to help control soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi).

During this period no live soybean plants are allowed in prior harvested fields, along the sides of fields, along roadways, or around storage and transportation facilities. Technicians from the Plant and Animal Protection Agency (Indea) will fan out across the state looking for violations and farmers who violate the rules will face fines.

In 2024, the technicians made 5,825 farm visits. During the 2024/25 growing season, there were 14,799 units of soybean production registered with Indea representing 8,939 producers.
