2025 U.S. Corn Rated 73% Gd/Ex, Soybeans Rated 66% Gd/Ex

Corn - The condition of the 2025 U.S. corn crop improved and is now rated 73% good/excellent, which represents an increase of 3% compared to the prior week. Ten states indicated that the corn condition improved last week, 5 indicated that the corn condition declined last week, and 3 were unchanged. Most of the improvements were generally found in the western locations while most of the declines were found in the eastern locations. The top five rated corn states are: Pennsylvania, Iowa, North Carolina, Nebraska, and a tie between Minnesota and Wisconsin. The five lowest rated corn states are: North Dakota, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Colorado.

The corn crop responded favorably to the hot and humid conditions of last week.

Soybeans - The condition of the 2025 U.S. soybean crop was unchanged last week at 66% rated good/excellent. Ten states indicated that the soybean condition improved last week, 6 states indicated that the soybean condition declined last week, and 2 remained unchanged. Most of the improvements were found in the western locations while most of the declines were found in the eastern locations. The top five rated soybean states are: Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The five lowest rated soybean states are: Michigan, Illinois, North Dakota, Tennessee, and Indiana.

Some of the soybeans received too much rain last week especially in the northwestern Corn Belt.

Soil Moisture - The nation's topsoil moisture increases last week with 7 states indicating improved soil moisture, 10 states indicating lower soil moisture, and 1 was unchanged. Most of the improvements were found in the western locations while most of the declines were found in the eastern locations. The five states with the highest soil moisture are: Ohio, Minnesota, Tennessee, Iowa, and Louisiana. The five states with the lowest soil moisture are: Nebraska, Illinois, Arkansas, Kansas, and South Dakota.

The heat dome last week brought record or near record temperatures to most of the Midwest. Rainfall over the past week favored the western and northwestern Midwest with heavy amounts especially in Minnesota. The eastern and southern Midwest received only scattered showers last week. The forecast for this week is mostly warm and dry across most of the Corn Belt.
