2025/26 Brazil Soy Acreage to Expand 2%, Production of 173.0 mt

Brazilian farmers will start planting their 2025/26 soybeans within a month depending on location. In Mato Grosso, farmers can start planting on September 7th with the end of the "soybean free" period provided that rainfall is adequate. In Parana, the start of soybean planting varies by region with some regions starting as early as September 1st and other regions starting as late as September 20th. The small percentage of farmers with irrigation will start first, but most farmers will wait until there is adequate soil moisture to ensure germination and emergence.
The expansion of Brazilian soybean acreage in 2025/26 will be one of the smallest in recent years due to low prices, higher cost of production, and limited credit availability. I am currently estimating that the 2025/26 Brazilian soybean acreage will increase 2% with a production of 173.0 million tons. Conab will issue their first official soybean acreage for the 2025/26 growing season in their October Crop Report. Estimates for the Brazilian soybean acreage increases in 2025/26 vary from 1.2% to 2.9%, see below.
- The Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) estimates that farmers in the state will increase the soybean acreage by 1.67% to 13.08 million hectares.
- Safras & Mercado is estimating that the 2025/26 soybean acreage will increase 1.2%.
- Patria Agronegocios is estimating the 2025/26 Brazilian soybean production at 166.56 million tons with the smallest increase in area since 2006/07.
- StoneX is estimating that the 2025/26 Brazilian soybean acreage will increase 2% with a production of 178.2 million tons, which is an increase of 5.6% year-on-year.
- The USDA is estimating that the 2025/26 Brazilian soybean acreage will increase 2.9% with a production of 175.0 million tons, which is up 3.5%.
